Daily Life at Vassar-Warner Home

Each resident has a life story we want to hear, and personal tastes and preferences we want to celebrate. At Vassar-Warner Home, we make sure there is something for everyone.

Our full-time Activities Supervisor plans stimulating programs and outings to concerts, art workshops, galleries, restaurants, and shops. Our chef and kitchen staff prepare tasty and nutritious meals and cater to resident preferences as much as possible—if you prefer hot chocolate to coffee, it will be waiting for you as you take your seat in our beautiful dining room! We offer many ways to maintain a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Residents can participate in a variety of clubs including arts & crafts, baking, gardening, community service, and a gentlemen’s club. Through our Resident Council, residents suggest future programming, outings, meals, or general improvements to the lifestyle at Vassar-Warner Home. Many residents enjoy volunteering time to community efforts.

Our cozy parlor has a large screen television, grand piano, large book and puzzle collection, and newly purchased living room furniture. Residents spend a lot of time together here playing cards and games, participating in arts & crafts activities, watching classic films, and visiting with each other.

Our residents enjoy strong and meaningful friendships. Each has a favorite spot in the parlor and a dedicated seat with their closest friends in the dining room. Our staff get to know newcomers and help facilitate introductions to residents with whom they’ll be most compatible, so they can quickly adapt to their new life at Vassar-Warner Home.

Residents are welcome to bring their own treasured furnishings to make their private rooms as unique and comfortable as the building itself. Each room has a basket on the door for mail, and many doors are delightfully decorated reflecting their owners’ personalities.

Residents are just a short walk or ride from downtown Poughkeepsie’s concerts, gallery openings, plays, festivals, and restaurants. We provide regular transportation to suburban shopping malls or just short jaunts for an ice cream sundae or lunch out. At other times, we bring the community directly to our residents with recitals, lecture series, travelogues, and multi-denominational worship services.

We love to party! There’s not a holiday we miss—Halloween, Thanksgiving, Cinco de Mayo, Christmas, Hannukah, Grandparents’ Day, or any cause for celebration!
